The "unsinkable Molly Brown" moved into this stone Victorian home after she and her husband struck it rich at a gold mine in Colorado's mountains, nearly 20 years before she boarded the Titanic because it was the first boat she could get back home to visit her ailing grandson.

The Molly Brown house is within walking distance of the Capital. Among the survivors who managed to escape in a lifeboat was the actress Margaret Brown. After acquiring their wealth, James and Margaret bought their Denver, Colorado, home (built in 1889) located at 1340 Pennsylvania Street.

Bringing back a blast from the past, the Historic Hannibal Marketing Council and the Mark Twain Boyhood Home bring the children of Hannibal the magic of Christmas with Hannibal's new Santa House. The museum also houses a permanent collection on James Joseph Brown, Molly's husband.

The Molly Brown House Museum is a must for history fans—especially of the Titanic. The Molly Brown house is owned by the city, and we feel we have a responsibility Margaret Brown to oversee it now even though we are not set up to oversee an attraction,” Tourism Director Gail Bryant said.

This souvenir booklet gives a brief bio of the life of that "Unsinkable" Molly Brown, as well as a respectably detailed description, including historic black & white photographs, of her classic Victorian home. Kristen Iversen says Brown did not like it. The name "Molly" was often used as an insult for an Irish girl, and nobody in her own life called her that.

Their second child, Catherine Ellen Brown, nicknamed Helen, was born on July 1, 1889 in Leadville, Colorado. Margaret's parents, John and Johanna Tobin, raised a close-knit Irish Catholic family.
